Karen’s Flower Shop, a chain of flower shops in North Carolina, is getting ready to open its doors.
The chain has been in business for over 40 years and was originally established by Karen Davis, the owner of Karen’s Flowers.
Davis said her store had a “very gay clientele” and decided to open a flower shop in 2011, when she had the idea to bring together flowers and gay people.
“We were not looking to cater only gay customers.
We wanted to cater a wider clientele and bring them together,” Davis said.
Now, with the chain opening its doors, the shop will be able to cater more to the gay community and cater to them in the same way they do for straight customers.
“It was about being a place that everybody could feel welcome and that everybody was comfortable in,” Davis told WTVD-TV.
The flower shop is slated to open this fall, with more locations in North Carolinas and other states planned.
