Mahopacs flower shop owner Darrick Mahopc has been charged with mail fraud after he was charged with fraudulently receiving $50,000 in sales tax from the same flower shop, according to the Sacramento Bee.
Mahopcs alleged scheme was to fraudulously claim a tax credit of $5,000 and then claim that his business had been taxed at $4,500, the Bee reported.
Mahpacs shop in the Sacramento area was raided in March by Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies after an audit found that he had frauduliously collected more than $4 million in sales taxes from the shop.
According to the Bee, Mahopcc has not been charged in connection with the probe.
He was indicted in December on five counts of mail fraud, one count of false claims of a tax benefit, and one count each of conspiracy, theft, and tampering with evidence.
